SENIOR MANAGEMENT
Dana Totman
President

Dana Totman became the President and CEO of Maine's largest non profit housing agency, Avesta Housing in 2000. Mr. Totman was the Deputy Director of Maine State Housing from 1994 to 2000 and previously was employed by Coastal Economic Development Corporation from 1984 to 1994 where he was the Executive Director.

Mr. Totman's career has focused on non profit and government management and leadership including leading organizations through significant change. Mr. Totman has a B.A. in Public Management from the University of Maine and an MBA from Southern New Hampshire University and he has attended Duke University's Government Leadership Program.

His current and past community service includes Brunswick Local Redevelopment Authority Board, Brunswick Planning Board, Midcoast Geriatrics Corp. (Board Chair), Bath Chamber of Commerce (Board Chair), Southern Maine Affordable Rental Housing Coalition (Chairman), Interagency Taskforce on Homelessness (Chairman), Maine Community Action Association (President), MEREDA (Board) , Maine Association of Realtors Foundation (Board), Tedford Shelter (Board Treasurer), Midcoast Health Services (Board), and Northern New England Housing Investment Fund (Board).

Mike Myatt
Vice President
Management and Assisted Living

Michael Myatt joined Avesta Housing in March, 2003 and serves as Vice President – Management and Assisted Living. He manages all property management and assisted living activities for the organization. Mr. Myatt previously served as VP, Development and Assisted Living, Senior Development Officer and Director of Housing Preservation for Avesta.

Mr. Myatt has extensive experience underwriting affordable housing projects including the Low Income Housing Tax Credit Program, Rural Development Section 515, HUD Section 202, tax-exempt bond financing and federal subsidies including Community Development Block Grant and HOME funds.

He has completed several project refinancing transactions including serving as the project manager for one of the first pooled bond transactions in the country involving over 200 units in 11 separate HUD 202 projects. More recently, he completed a 48 unit independent living project for seniors’ which was the first in Maine to combine Rural Development 515, HUD 202 and tax credits into the same project. Prior to joining Avesta Housing, Mr. Myatt worked for the Maine State Housing Authority as a Multifamily Loan Officer and in the Community Development Office of the City of Lewiston, Maine as Housing/CD Officer. Mr. Myatt attended the University of Maine where he received a B.A. degree in Public Administration. Mr. Myatt also serves as a member of the Maine Affordable Rental Housing coalition (MARHC).

Kirsten Figueroa
Chief Financial Officer

Kirsten Figueroa joined Avesta Housing in June of 2008 and serves as the Chief Financial Officer. She is responsible for all financial, personnel and administrative aspects of Avesta Housing operations. Previously, Ms. Figueroa served as the Deputy Commissioner of Finance for the Maine Department of Health and Human Services. 

Ms. Figueroa worked in state government for fifteen years in various financial leadership positions. While with DHHS, Ms. Figueroa served as a member of the Executive Leadership Team responsible for its strategic direction. She was responsible for the Department’s $3.4 billion annual budget as well as its divisions of Audit, Purchased Services, and Rate Setting. Prior to DHHS, Ms. Figueroa was the Chief Financial Officer for the Dirigo Health Agency. Ms. Figueroa has extensive experience in budgetary and analytical reporting and the formulation of agency policy and procedures.

Ms. Figueroa received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from Southern New Hampshire University.

Debora Keller
Director of Development

Debora Keller joined Avesta Housing in October 2004 and serves as Director of Development. She manages the development, financing and construction of Avesta’s affordable housing efforts. Ms. Keller previously served as Development Officer for Avesta.

Prior to joining Avesta, Deb was Associate Director of the Genesis Fund, a Maine-based Community Development Financial Institution providing loans to nonprofit organizations. At Genesis, Deb managed the organization’s $3.0 million loan portfolio and was responsible for marketing, underwriting, monitoring, and servicing for all lending activity. She has extensive past work experience with non-profit community development organizations around the country. Deb started her housing career as a VISTA Volunteer in Iowa where she created a security deposit loan program for low income clients and a breakfast café for the homeless.

Ms. Keller holds a Bachelor of Arts from Indiana University and a Masters Degree from Tufts University in Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning. She currently serves on Maine’s Region I Homeless Council.

Paul Schreiber
Director of Assisted Living

Paul Schreiber joined Avesta Housing in August, 2000 as Director of Assisted Living. He is responsible for the direction and administration of residential care programs and facilities, including the Inn at Village Square.

Mr. Schreiber's experience in health care includes over twenty years as a Hospital Administrator, Nursing Home Administrator, and as an Assisted Living / Residential Care Facility Administrator. He has also worked as a Health Care Consultant for a national consulting firm based in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Schreiber received his B.A. degree from Brooklyn College, Brooklyn, N.Y., with a major in Psychology. He earned a Masters degree in Health Care Administration from George Washington University, Washington, D.C., graduating with a dual major in Long Term Care Administration and Hospital Administration.
