b'A Messagefrom Rebecca2021 was a year of ongoing pandemic-related disruptions, rising inflation, and a growing housing crisis.An already shallow pool of affordable housing was quickly drained, and thousands of individuals and families sought homes with Avesta. Our work to provide affordable housing was more important than ever.As a nonprofit organization with 300 talented employees, we are mission-driven, strategic, and adaptable. Together with our community partners we grew our effortsto help more people in need of safe, affordable homes and support services.At the close of 2021, Avesta was providing affordable homes to more than 4,800 residents in 3,174 homes among 110 multi-family rental properties. We opened two new properties with 163 homes in 2021West End I and Deering Place. We also entered the construction phase of development on five properties that will provide a total of 207 new homes when completed. Avesta continued to provide care to people living in in our assisted living communities75 State Street in Portland and Inn at Village Square in Gorham. And the Avesta HomeOwnership Center provided 949 individuals with financial counseling, homebuying education, or foreclosure mitigation counseling.We remain steadfast in our mission and continue to seek innovative ways to address the growing challenge of providing affordable housing and resident support services. In 2021, this includedthe Silver Hearth Fund, a $2 million fundraising initiative that enabled us to provide new affordable homes, expand services, and improve existing homes for older adults.
