Avesta Housing Announces Hire for New Home Ownership Center

"Successful, sustainable homeownership begins with educated consumers who have the tools, capacity and options to make good choices when it comes to buying a home, obtaining a mortgage and maintaining their homes," said Stolt.

Avesta Housing today announced the hiring of David Stolt to manage the agency’s Home Ownership Center at their headquarters in Portland. The center will provide consumers and families in Cumberland County the opportunity to access all of the services, technical assistance and resources needed to achieve sustainable homeownership.

"Successful, sustainable homeownership begins with educated consumers who have the tools, capacity and options to make good choices when it comes to buying a home, obtaining a mortgage and maintaining their homes," said Stolt.

Stolt previously administered the Foreclosure Diversion Program at the Bureau of Consumer Credit Protection. His experience in mortgage lending regulation, housing counseling, and foreclosure intervention provide critical expertise to the program. Stolt will spearhead Avesta’s Home Ownership Center, providing much needed services to not only those looking to purchase their first home, but also current home owners who have run into difficulties.

"Homeownership is still a dream for many hard-working Maine families," said Stolt. "We will work directly with each new buyer who wants to achieve homeownership by preparing them for this significant investment and ensuring they are ready for long-term success."

The recent housing crisis underscores the need of providing home buyers with the skills and information necessary to sustain homeownership.

"Data has shown that consumers who receive pre-purchase training are not the ones who become delinquent on their loans," said Stolt. "There are affordable homeownership opportunities that exist today, and now is the perfect time for families to realize their dream of owning a home."
