Portland, MAINE – The TD Charitable Foundation, funded by TD Bank, recently contributed $25,000 to Avesta Housing in Cumberland County as part of the bank’s commitment to giving back to the community.
Avesta Housing is northern New England’s largest nonprofit affordable housing developer. Avesta will use the funds from the TD Charitable Foundation to enhance the work of its new Home Ownership Center. Established in June 2012, the center helps consumers prepare for sustainable homeownership through homebuyer education, invest wisely with guidance on affordable and appropriate mortgage products, and retain their homes through foreclosure prevention counseling. The center serves as a one-stop shop for low- and moderate-income families in Cumberland County looking to buy their first home, improve the home they own or avoid foreclosure.
“This funding from TD Charitable Foundation will allow the Home Ownership Center to work directly with families who want to achieve homeownership by preparing them for this significant investment and ensuring that they are ready for the long-term commitment,” said Avesta President Dana Totman. “The Home Ownership Center has already helped nearly 150 Maine people, and this funding will enable us to reach many more.”
