Stiletto still life photography on display Friday at Oak Street Lofts

A photography exhibit of stiletto shoes will be on display Friday, Dec. 7, from 5-8 p.m. at the Oak Street Lofts gallery for First Friday Art Walk.
Portland, MAINE, Dec. 4, 2012 — A photography exhibit of stiletto shoes will be on display Friday, Dec. 7, from 5-8 p.m. at the Oak Street Lofts gallery for First Friday Art Walk.

The show, "Stiletto Life," by Lesley MacVane explores the beauty and absurdity of the stiletto shoe. "Stiletto heels fascinate me," says MacVane. "They are so sculptural and lovely, yet so unrealistic and absurd when you consider that they are to hold a foot, which has a totally different shape. And then, once the feet are in these vessels, they are supposed to walk!"

Completed in January 2012 and located in the heart of the city's arts district, Oak Street Lofts is a unique property that caters to artists looking to work and live affordably in Portland. Besides the gallery, Oak Street Lofts features a shared work space for residents, and the property's 37 efficiency apartments include ample storage for art supplies and equipment. The gallery, located at 72 Oak St., is open to the public every First Friday Art Walk.

Oak Street Lofts is also the first affordable multi-family building in Maine to achieve LEED Platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. The building earned Avesta Housing the 2012 Affordable Developer of the Year award from USGBC.
