Portland, MAINE, Jan. 25, 2013 — The Maine Real Estate and Development Association has named Avesta Housing President and CEO Dana Totman the 2012 recipient of the Robert B. Patterson Jr. Founder’s Award. MEREDA presented the award at its annual forecast conference and member showcase on Jan. 24 at the Holiday Inn By the Bay in Portland.
This career recognition award acknowledges members of MEREDA who have distinguished themselves by making significant contributions to the real estate industry and/or to MEREDA over many years. Dana is a longtime supporter of MEREDA, and is a board member and a member of its Legislative Affairs Committee.

“I am really quite stunned to be included with the select few that have received this recognition,” said Totman. “I always want to do more in the real estate world and more to add to the incredible strength and reputation of MEREDA, so it is refreshing to receive an award that suggests I am on the right track. MEREDA is a very special organization, and I feel very fortunate to be a part of it."
Dana has served as President and CEO of Avesta Housing since 2000. Since joining Avesta Housing, Dana has increased the agency’s portfolio from 800 apartments to 1,900 apartments, including 278 new units completed or under construction in the past year valued at more than $61 million. He also led the creation of the Maine Affordable Housing Coalition and Avesta’s Home Ownership Center.
