“Other Hand” exhibit on display at Oak Street Lofts gallery

A collection of work made by local artists using their non-dominant hands will be on display Friday, March 1, from 5-9 p.m. at the Oak Street Lofts gallery for First Friday Art Walk.

Portland, MAINE, Feb. 26, 2013 — A collection of work made by local artists using their non-dominant hands will be on display Friday, March 1, from 5-9 p.m. at the Oak Street Lofts gallery for First Friday Art Walk.

Oak Street Lofts resident Angela Cook will curate the show, entitled "Other Hand." The exhibit consists of work by members of the local artist community using their non-dominant hand. Che Ros & Dirty Laundry Lights will provide music and visuals with intermittent spoken word beats by Tanya Zivkovic, also an Oak Street Lofts resident, beginning at 6 p.m.

Completed in January 2012 and located in the heart of the city's arts district, Oak Street Lofts is a unique property that caters to artists looking to work and live affordably in Portland. Besides the gallery, Oak Street Lofts features a shared work space for residents, and the property's 37 efficiency apartments include ample storage for art supplies and equipment. The gallery, located at 72 Oak St., is open to the public every First Friday Art Walk.

Oak Street Lofts is also the first affordable multi-family building in Maine to achieve LEED Platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
