Oak Street Lofts Gallery show celebrates the sun

The gallery at Oak Street Lofts will feature the work of resident artist Ingrid Grins on Friday, May 3, from 5-8 p.m. for First Friday Art Walk.

Portland, MAINE, May 1, 2013 — The gallery at Oak Street Lofts will feature the work of resident artist Ingrid Grins on Friday, May 3, from 5-8 p.m. for First Friday Art Walk.

Grins’ exhibit, entitled “The Diggy Nova Show,” explores humanity’s relationship with the sun using a mix of media, including oil, acrylic, watercolor and ink. “Sun worship is as old as the emergence of humans as human,” said the artist about her show. “Our existence will end at the end of our star, millions of years in the future. With my artwork, I hope to convey my part in the connectivity of humankind.”

Completed in January 2012 and located in the heart of the city’s arts district, Oak Street Lofts is a unique property that caters to artists looking to work and live affordably in Portland. Besides the gallery, Oak Street Lofts features a shared work space for residents, and the property’s 37 efficiency apartments include ample storage for art supplies and equipment. The gallery, located at 72 Oak St., is open to the public every First Friday Art Walk.

Oak Street Lofts is also the first affordable multi-family building in Maine to achieve LEED Platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Oak Street Lofts was recently named the winner of the Charles L. Edson Tax Credit Excellence Award in Green Housing.
