The stewardship of natural resources starts with one of our core values, “stewardship – we manage our resources responsibly, efficiently, and sustainably,” and transcends everything we do – from development to property management to workplace culture.
Avesta Housing’s most significant green activities and achievements thus far relate to our development building standards. Our baseline building envelopes and mechanical systems exceed any building codes we encounter. Energy production and efficiency are high priorities for Avesta developments. Currently, eight developments have solar thermal energy, while another nine have photovoltaic solar panels. As a result of our commitment to sustainability, Avesta has four LEED-certified buildings, one ENERGY STAR-certified building, and one Passive House building.
Our Property Management division also focuses on sustainability, from installation of low-flow plumbing fixtures to the creation and maintenance of community gardens (in more than 20 of Avesta’s properties). We have established community partnerships around food security and are continuously looking for ways to strengthen and expand those relationships and programs.
Avesta is a founding member of Portland 2030 and received a NeighborWorks Green Designation in 2016.
