Rental Assistance

Helping to Bridge the Gap

Every month thousands of low-income Mainers require financial assistance to bridge the gap between their rent and ability to pay. Waiting lists for affordable housing continue to grow throughout the state.

In Southern Maine, Avesta Housing administers US Department of Housing and Urban Development Section 8 certificate voucher programs from satellite offices in Saco and Norway. The programs provide crucial monthly rental assistance to 1,300 households in four Maine counties – York, Cumberland, Oxford and Androscoggin.

Avesta Housing capably navigates the complex regulatory requirements that Section 8 voucher programs entail, including contract and lease negotiations, inspection for compliance with housing quality standards, financial reporting and documentation, and payment disbursements. Our comprehensive program administration includes marketing, applicant screening, mediation between owners and residents, and apartment management.

The result is the security of a safe place to live for thousands of Mainers who might otherwise be without options.
