Avesta Housing plans on building new apartments for homeless in Portland where Oxford Street Shelter used to be

A new project in Portland is aimed at providing apartments to people who are chronically homeless.

Avesta Housing is buying the land that used to house the Oxford Street Shelter, and they plan to build brand new apartments for the homeless.

Avesta Housing and Preble Street say it’s appropriate that this project will be built on the property that housed homeless individuals for decades.

They say this site-based housing-first model has proven to be a cost-effective, permanent solution to ending homelessness in America.
