State hopes new resources will help ease Maine housing crisis

PORTLAND (WGME) – The push for new housing in Maine continues, as housing groups and developers are chipping away at the state’s desperate shortage of available and affordable housing.

Avesta Housing celebrated the opening of an affordable development in Portland Thursday. Porter Station on Valley Street is a 60-unit complex with 48 affordable apartments.

For one man who now calls that building home, he says it’s been life-changing.

“It just gave us a home,” said Joseph Fitzsimmons.
