LEWISTON, Maine — Like many communities in Maine, Lewiston-Auburn has a significant housing need.
A building boom is currently underway to meet this rising demand. Multiple housing projects are under construction, with others in the planning stage. Some of the demand comes from individuals relocating to the Twin Cities after being priced out of the Greater Portland area.
Demolition is underway on Pine Street, across from Kennedy Park and Lewiston City Hall.
This summer, contractors will demolish the former Lewiston Sun Journal building to make way for the DeWitt development. The site, which once hosted a grand hotel, will be redeveloped into two new buildings featuring commercial space and over 100 apartments.
