FARMINGTON, Maine (WABI) – A ribbon cutting was held in Farmington on Wednesday on a new affordable living facility for those over the age of 55.
Avesta Housing welcomed in members of the community to tour Edgewater Village. There are 25 single-person units developed with older adults’ requirements in mind.
Executives with the project say housing is a dire need for every community in the state, especially rural areas.
“Communities like Farmington are not immune from those pressures,” commented Avesta Housing President & CEO Jennifer Hawkins. “There’s lots of older adults who maybe are living in a very large home that they raised their family in. It’s now becoming too expensive to maintain, too just physically hard to maintain, and they want to be able to stay here, but there’s really nothing that suits their needs as older adults.”
