First Time Home Buyer Classes

Our Home Buyer Education Course is a 8-hour class taught by certified housing counselors and industry professionals with expertise in their fields.

About the Class

If you require an interpreter, please contact our team at least 7 days in advance so that arrangements can be made. Please note that due to the nature of the material being discussed, a professional interpreter is required.

The course meets one of the requirements for participants to receive the $5,000 MaineHousing Advantage Grant that they can apply toward their down payment and closing costs.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Navigate the home-buying process
  • Manage money and maximize creditworthiness
  • Qualify for and obtain a mortgage loan
  • Get the most out of your home inspection
  • Complete the closing process

All Home Buyer Education Courses are conducted in person.

Upcoming Home Buyer Education Classes

  • The cost for each class is $30 per person for Home Buyer Education courses and $35 per person for Multi-Unit Home Ownership courses.
  • Please be advised that we are unable to offer refunds for online registrations.
  • We respectfully request that you do not bring children or infants to class.

Learn online! hoMEworks has partnered with eHome America to offer a fee-based online certification course. The course takes 8 to 10 hours, and you may stop and start at any time. Short quizzes will verify your understanding of key information. There is a test at the end which you will need to pass to receive a certificate of completion. Also included is a short telephone session with a hoMEworks Educator who will provide information about local, state, and federal homeownership programs available in Maine.
