About the Project
Hillside at Village Square at Village Square is an opportunity to redevelop and transform an under-utilized capital asset into affordable housing. Avesta proposes to demolish vacant office space that was once the York-Cumberland Housing administrative offices and build new rental housing within it’s footprint. The new housing will be a four story 27-unit elevator building for seniors age 55+. All units would be affordable and restricted to seniors with incomes at or below 50% and 60% of area median income.
The Hillside building will be the 5th phase in the Village Square community, which includes three existing affordable senior multifamily buildings and an assisted living facility, all of which are owned and managed by Avesta Housing. Avesta would further construct a plaza with outdoor seating that would physically connect the Hillside development to the existing community.
The new building would be ideally situated for access to both public services and an existing senior community. The site is within a half mile of two Portland Metro bus stops and current senior residents benefit from on-site property management, resident services, on-call transportation to doctors’ appointments, and bi-monthly wellness clinics.
