About the Project
Wessex Woods represents an opportunity to create much-needed affordable senior housing in an accessible location within Portland. The development site contains eight contiguous lots located in a highly walkable area in the Nason’s Corner section of the city. The project is located near many amenities and services, making it a prime location for housing; retail stores, a pharmacy, trails and restaurants are all located within a half mile. The site is also located within a tenth of a mile to a bus stop on the extensive Portland public transportation bus system, connecting residents with Portland’s downtown as well as adjoining communities.
Wessex Woods involves the new construction of 40 one-bedroom apartments for older Mainers (55+ years of age), in one 4-story building. 34 of the apartments will be affordable and 6 will be market rate. Portland Housing Authority has awarded project-based rental assistance to eight of the units at the project.
Affordable apartments will be targeted to households making between $31,000-43,000.
