Caring for older adults wasn’t Julie Martin’s first career choice. In fact, she didn’t start until she was in her 50s. But now she couldn’t imagine not doing it. “There are some life lessons to be learned from the elderly,” she said. Julie, 58, grew up on a farm in Gray, and now manages her
SWAG, our “social wellness activity group,” coordinates numerous parties, outings, and activities throughout the year. SWAG also hosts athletic jaunts for staff of all abilities. Pictured here is a SWAG-hosted bike ride around Portland’s Back Cove and down East End Beach that ended with a fun, casual dinner at a local restaurant.
Our Social Wellness Activity Group (SWAG for short!) loves to throw a party. SWAG hosts potlucks, holiday lunches (think corned beef and cabbage for St. Patrick’s Day and tacos for Cinco de Mayo), an annual softball game and BBQ, a weekly walking/jogging/running club, a winter night out, and so much more!
The annual Avesta softball game is legendary around the office. Staff from every department join in the competition on the field and in the stands cheering on our coworkers. After the game, everyone comes together to celebrate with a delicious BBQ. Families are welcome, and the staff kids have a blast in the bouncy house!
